Ruby’s daughter, Cindy, mentioned a “friend” named William who was always around her grandmother. Ruby was shocked to hear this, as William was the name of her deceased father. Ruby recalled, “Before we eat anything, Grandma always says to offer it to William first.” Confused and concerned, Ruby confronted her mother.
Her mother tearfully confessed, “I still feel your father… And sometimes I still talk to him.” She explained that speaking to her late husband had become a coping mechanism after his death. While Ruby understood her mother’s grief, she urged, “Cindy doesn’t understand it like that.”
Ruby suggested therapy, which her mother reluctantly agreed to. Since then, her mother has been attending therapy regularly, and her mood has improved. Now, she and Cindy enjoy painting together, and her mother no longer mentions William in front of the family. As a result, they all seem to be on the path to healing.
