Shakira Says It’s ‘Good’ Not to Have a Husband: ‘It Was Dragging Me Down’

In a recent interview, Shakira, 47, reflected on her journey as a single mother and artist. Previously, she felt torn between her family and career during her relationship with Gerard Piqué. She admitted, “Every time I had to be pulled into the studio to do my work, I failed.” Now, living away from Barcelona with her two sons, aged 11 and 9, in Miami, she feels empowered. She explains, “Now I feel like working. I feel like writing songs. I feel like making music.”

Shakira credits her newfound creativity to her independence, stating, “In a way, it’s kind of good not to have a husband because that…I don’t know why it was dragging me down.” Her upcoming album, “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (Women Don’t Cry Anymore),” celebrates this journey. She describes it as an alchemical process, saying, “While writing each song I was rebuilding myself. While singing them, my tears transformed into diamonds, and my vulnerability into strength.”

The album, releasing this Friday, features a mix of new and previously released tracks, showcasing Shakira’s resilience and musical evolution.
