Doctor Warns Against Dangerous New Trend That Leaves People Looking Like ‘Reptiles’

Doctors Warn Against Mesotherapy Risks

A resurfacing cosmetic trend, mesotherapy, is raising alarms. This procedure injects vitamins and minerals under the skin to reduce wrinkles, fat, and under-eye bags. Originally developed in 1952 for medical use, it has gained popularity in beauty treatments.

Doctors warn of serious risks. It can cause raised bumps, giving skin a ‘honeycomb-like’ or ‘reptilian’ look. “The risks of under-eye mesotherapy go beyond minor side effects, especially when people go to inexperienced technicians or do this at home,” said Dr. Viktoryia Kazlouskaya. Complications may include allergic reactions, skin damage, or even permanent eye issues.

Another concern is the lack of regulation. Unlike FDA-approved treatments, mesotherapy formulas vary and may contain unverified substances. “The absence of US regulatory oversight means patients could be exposed to counterfeit or unverified products,” Dr. Kazlouskaya warned.

Despite its popularity, experts urge caution. Dr. Hannah Kopelman advised, “I always emphasize identifying the root cause first and exploring safe, evidence-based options.”
