VP JD Vance Mocked for ‘Embarrassing’ Comment in Zelenskyy Debate
A heated Oval Office meeting between President Trump and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy on Friday turned into a tense exchange over Ukraine’s security and U.S. aid. Trump accused Zelenskyy of being “disrespectful” and warned, “You’re gambling with the lives of millions of people, you’re gambling with World War Three.” He added, “You’re not acting at all thankful. And that’s not a nice thing.”
Vance’s Controversial Remark
During the meeting, Vice President JD Vance defended Trump’s diplomatic stance, blaming former President Biden for failed peace efforts. When Zelenskyy questioned Vance’s understanding of Ukraine’s situation, Vance replied, “I’ve actually watched and seen the stories, and I know what happens is you bring people on a propaganda tour, Mr. President.” This comment sparked widespread ridicule on social media, as critics noted Vance’s limited military experience.
Zelenskyy’s Push for Security Guarantees
Zelenskyy later emphasized his commitment to peace, stating, “We are ready to sign the minerals agreement, and it will be the first step toward security guarantees.” However, he warned that without firm U.S. assurances, Ukraine would remain vulnerable. “A ceasefire won’t work with Putin. He has broken ceasefires 25 times over the last ten years. A real peace is the only solution.”
U.S.-Ukraine Minerals Deal
The newly finalized minerals agreement establishes an investment fund for Ukraine’s reconstruction. Key terms include Ukraine contributing 50% of future mineral proceeds and U.S. financial backing under American legal constraints. Former Ukrainian minister Tymofiy Mylovanov noted, “Now, they’ve shifted to a reasonable deal with co-ownership and no direct claims on past aid. That could actually benefit Ukraine.”
