What Happened to This ’70s Heartthrob Who Left Acting & Battled Addiction? – His Pics at 63

Rise to Fame and Struggles
Leif Garrett soared to teen idol status in the 1970s, captivating fans with his charm and music. “Obviously, part of it was because of the look, but if you can’t back it up with some talent… then you can’t be there for just the way you look,” he once shared. However, fame came at a price. Constant touring and a lack of parental guidance led to addiction and reckless decisions. “There was a lot of bad decision-making,” he admitted, recalling how he navigated stardom alone.

Battling Addiction and Legal Troubles
Garrett struggled with substance abuse for years, culminating in a 2010 drug arrest. A wake-up call came when he served 90 days in jail. Reflecting on his music career, he confessed, “Obviously, perpetuating this lie of me being this musical artist… I sang, but it wasn’t me 100 percent.” A tragic 1979 car accident that left his friend paralyzed also haunted him. Decades later, his friend absolved him, saying, “I had no idea… he would tell me that he did not hold me responsible.”

A New Chapter and Memoir
In 2019, Garrett released Idol Truth, revealing the struggles behind his fame. “I look back at my life… I wish I had made better decisions,” he said in 2020. He embraced a quieter life, caring for his ailing parents and later mourning their loss. “The moment we stop trying to investigate and try new things, we stagnate and die. There are physical aches and pains, but mentally I still feel 18,” he remarked.

Reconnecting with Fans
Now in his 60s, Garrett shares life updates on social media. Fans admire his resilience, commenting, “You look amazing ~as always!” and “You look great!! And healthy!” His journey from heartthrob to a man of reflection and growth proves that life after fame can be met with authenticity and newfound purpose.
