Suspect in Frisco Track Meet Stabbing That Killed 17-Year-Old Athlete Austin Metcalf Speaks Out – Details

Seventeen-year-old Karmelo Anthony admitted to fatally stabbing fellow student-athlete Austin Metcalf during a Frisco track meet on April 3. When police referred to him as the “alleged suspect,” Karmelo responded, “I’m not alleged, I did it.” He told officers he acted in self-defense, saying, “I was protecting myself” and “He put his hands on me.”

According to police, the altercation began when Karmelo sought shelter under a tent. After being asked to move, a confrontation with Austin escalated. A witness reported Karmelo warned, “Touch me and see what happens,” before allegedly stabbing Austin once in the chest.

Austin’s father, Jeff Metcalf, shared that his son died in the arms of his twin brother: “He died in his brother’s arms.” His mother, Meghan, said, “My son is not here anymore, and I don’t understand it.”

Karmelo is charged with murder and held on $1 million bond. His lawyers emphasized his right to due process. Both families launched fundraisers—Austin’s GoFundMe has raised over $300,000, while Karmelo’s campaign nears its $300,000 goal.
