Actress Mackenzie Phillips has opened up about her alleged ten-year abusive relationship with her father, John Phillips of The Mamas & the Papas. Speaking on her sister Chynna’s YouTube channel, Mackenzie said John had “a very dark side.”
First Assault and Aftermath
In a past interview, Mackenzie recounted, “I had tons of pills, and dad had tons of everything too. Eventually, I passed out on dad’s bed.” She claims she woke up to being r***d, saying, “All I can say is it was the first time I was aware of it.” Their relationship continued, with Mackenzie later calling it a form of “Stockholm syndrome.”
Pregnancy and Ending the Relationship
Mackenzie ended the relationship after becoming pregnant, uncertain of the father’s identity. Chynna recalled, “There was this whole other side to dad that was kind of, like, monster.” Mackenzie agreed, describing him as “very unpredictable.”
Forgiveness and Moving Forward
Despite backlash, Mackenzie shared, “Forgiving is for me, not the other person. It’s very complicated. And yet, I am at peace.” John Phillips passed away in 2001 at age 65.
