7-year-old boy dies after woman allegedly sent ‘poisoned Easter eggs’ to ex’s family in ‘revenge’ plot

A tragic Easter turned deadly in Brazil after a seven-year-old boy died from eating poisoned chocolate, allegedly sent by Jordélia Pereira Barbosa, 35, in a revenge plot against her ex’s new family.

The Deadly Gift

Barbosa is accused of buying Easter eggs, spiking them with unknown substances, and sending them to her ex-boyfriend’s new partner, Mirian Lira, with a note reading, “With love, to Mirian Lira. Happy Easter.” Lira shared the chocolates with her 7-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter. The boy became violently ill “immediately” and died hours later at Imperatriz City Hospital. Lira and her daughter remain critically ill.

Investigation and Arrest

Police arrested Barbosa while she was traveling home. CCTV showed her purchasing the chocolates in disguise, wearing a dark wig. Authorities found wigs, scissors, a saw knife, and unknown substances in her possession.

Motive and Ongoing Investigation

Security official Maurício Martins stated the attack “was motivated by revenge and jealousy,” adding, “several indications clearly point to this woman being the perpetrator.” An autopsy and further forensic tests are underway.
