Sophie Nyweide, known for roles in Mammoth and Bella, tragically passed away on April 14 at just 24 years old. Authorities found her unresponsive near a high school in Bennington, Vermont, and pronounced her dead at the scene. Her death certificate revealed she was pregnant at the time.
An online obituary described her as “a kind and trusting girl,” whose artistic work reflected “the depth she had and the pain she suffered.” It added, “Sophie. A life ended too soon. May it not be in vain. May we all learn from her brief life on earth and do better.”
Her mother, Shelly, confirmed to TMZ that Sophie had been using drugs and was with unknown individuals at the time of her death. “My knowledge is she was using drugs and was a tiny young woman… There is an investigation ongoing,” she said.
Bennington Police Chief Paul J. Doucette stated that they are investigating the case as a “possible unintentional overdose.” Autopsy results are pending and expected within 6–8 weeks.
