J.K. Rowling is reportedly using HBO’s new Harry Potter TV series as a way to move past the original film trio—Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint—after their public fallout.

The actors, who gained global fame from Rowling’s novels, have distanced themselves from her following her controversial comments on sex and gender. In 2020, Rowling tweeted: “‘People who menstruate.’ I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?”

Radcliffe later responded through The Trevor Project: “Transgender women are women. Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people.”

Now, Rowling, executive producer of HBO’s $200M-per-season reboot, hinted at her grudge by joking on social media when asked about actors who “instantly ruin a movie,” saying: “Three guesses. Sorry, but that was irresistible.”

An insider told MailOnline: “For J.K., this is a chance to lay the memories of the three leads to rest and start afresh with a whole new cast and fanbase too.”
