Clooney Joins High-Profile ICC Panel
Amal Clooney served on an eight-person legal panel advising the International Criminal Court (ICC) on possible war crimes by Israeli and Hamas leaders. The group, led by prosecutor Karim Khan, reviewed evidence from the 2024 Israel-Gaza conflict. Clooney stated, “I served on this Panel because I believe in the rule of law and the need to protect civilian lives.”

Arrest Warrants and Legal Fallout
The panel concluded the evidence was strong enough to issue arrest warrants for Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, ex-Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas leaders Yahya Sinwar, Mohammed Deif, and Ismail Haniyeh. In November 2024, charges were officially filed. However, Hamas leaders named had since died.

Trump’s Backlash Against ICC
President Trump issued sanctions against ICC prosecutor Khan in February 2025 and warned similar action against others, including Clooney. Reports suggest Clooney might be denied U.S. entry, sparking online outrage.

Clooney’s Stand for Justice
Clooney defended her role, saying no conflict or leader should be “beyond the reach of the law.” Despite criticism and threats, she remains firm in her human rights advocacy.
