Renowned actor, comedian, and writer Joe Flaherty, celebrated for his roles in “Second City Television” (SCTV) and “Freaks and Geeks,” passed away at the age of 82. His daughter, Gudrun, shared the news, expressing her profound loss. She highlighted his deep love for classic cinema, which shaped both his professional and personal life.

Flaherty’s impact was immense, especially on “SCTV,” where he starred alongside John Candy, Catherine O’Hara, and Martin Short. Notable for his celebrity impressions and original characters, Flaherty was a cornerstone of the show’s success. Martin Short paid tribute, acknowledging Flaherty’s comedic genius and mentorship.

Originally from Pittsburgh, Flaherty began his career at The Second City in Chicago before moving to Toronto to co-establish Second City Toronto and join “SCTV.” Throughout his illustrious career, Flaherty appeared in various TV shows and films, leaving an indelible mark on each project.

In his final days, Flaherty chose to remain at home, surrounded by loved ones. His “SCTV” colleagues rallied support through social media. Gudrun emphasized her father’s profound influence, both professionally and personally, expressing gratitude for the love and laughter he shared with the world.
