Katie Wolferding spent most of her life hiding from cameras due to her uneven chin and underbite. “I hated looking in the mirror,” she confessed. Mocked with cruel comments like “You look like a bulldog,” Katie’s confidence was shattered. Her discomfort made everyday interactions difficult, especially talking and eating.
On June 27, 2018, she underwent double jaw surgery. “It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make,” Katie shared, admitting she backed out three times. The surgery also changed her nose, which initially made breathing tough. Still, she pushed through: “It’s changed my life.”

Recovery wasn’t just physical. Katie relearned how to eat, drink, and breathe — using nasal strips, syringes, and even ketchup bottles. “The longest recovery is your mentality about it all,” she said. The emotional impact of bullying and self-doubt lingered.
Today, Katie is a joyful wife, homeowner, and photographer in Missouri. “I never thought I’d see the day that smiling would be one of my favorite things to do.” Her story continues to inspire thousands online.
