John Cena recently revealed he was diagnosed with skin cancer after having spots removed from his chest and shoulder. The 48-year-old WWE star-turned-actor admitted he used to neglect sun protection, saying, “That information is sobering, and it prompted me to change my life.”
Cena shared that both spots were confirmed cancerous a year apart, and the experience deeply impacted his outlook. “I didn’t wear sunscreen as often as I should have,” he told People, expressing regret over not taking better care of his skin earlier in life.
Now a spokesperson for Neutrogena’s SPF 70 sunscreen, Cena is promoting daily sun protection—especially among men. He compared SPF use to working out: “It’s not just about beauty; it’s about making healthier choices.”
He hopes his story will encourage others to act before it’s too late. “Wearing sunscreen is as simple as brushing your teeth,” he said. “My perspective has changed, and I don’t want anyone else to wait for a wake-up call like I did.”
