A viral TikTok claim suggests people who’ve never broken a bone are blessed with “divine protection” or “good karma.” While comforting, doctors say the reality is far more practical.
According to Dr. Suhail Hussain and the Royal Osteoporosis Society (ROS), genetics, lifestyle, and diet play key roles. “Bone strength is largely inherited,” says Dr. Hussain, noting that factors like calcium absorption, bone density, and skeletal structure all come from your DNA.
Bone strength naturally declines after age 30, especially in postmenopausal women. Poor diet, lack of exercise, smoking, and alcohol can all weaken bones. “Lifestyle plays a huge role in whether or not you’ll suffer a fracture,” Dr. Hussain adds.
Eat calcium-rich foods like dairy, almonds, and leafy greens. Stay active with walking, jogging, or weight training. If concerned, ask your doctor about a painless bone density (DEXA) scan.
It’s not magic—strong bones are built through good habits and awareness, not just good luck.
