Nearly two years after the Titan submersible’s catastrophic implosion, new footage has emerged capturing the chilling moment the vessel failed. The OceanGate sub lost contact on 18 June 2023, during a dive to the Titanic wreck, about 12,500ft below sea level. Four days later, the US Coast Guard confirmed a “catastrophic implosion” had occurred.
The disaster claimed the lives of all five onboard: OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, British billionaire Hamish Harding, Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet, and father-son duo Shahzada and Suleman Dawood.
In footage shared by the BBC, Wendy Rush, wife of Stockton Rush, is seen reacting to a loud bang aboard the support ship. She asked, “What was that bang?”—unaware it was the sound of the sub imploding.
A text from Titan suggested they dropped weights, briefly misleading the crew. However, experts confirmed the implosion sound traveled faster than the message. The clip now serves as key evidence in the USCG investigation.
