Austin Metcalf, 17, was fatally stabbed in the heart during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, on April 2. He died in the arms of his younger brother. Police say the incident followed a fight over seating, and 18-year-old Karmelo Anthony is accused of the stabbing.
Despite being charged with murder and placed under house arrest, Anthony is still set to receive his high school diploma from Centennial High School. Austin’s father, Jeffrey Metcalf, is urging the school and Texas Education Agency to reconsider, claiming the decision “rewards” the alleged killer.
“He died in his brother’s arms. And now they’re giving his accused killer a diploma,” Metcalf told the press. He was also removed from a press conference held by Anthony’s family, where he had hoped to offer a moment of unity and prayer.
Frisco ISD has confirmed Anthony won’t attend graduation in person. His family maintains he acted in self-defense, while Metcalf continues to demand accountability.
The case has sparked outrage and a wider debate over justice and school policy.
