Legendary actor Dick Van Dyke is approaching his 100th birthday and recently shared the bittersweet reality of living nearly a century. Known for classics like Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Van Dyke has spent decades in the spotlight.
In a recent event with his wife, Arlene, 53, Van Dyke opened up about the loss of close friends, including his longtime collaborator Ed Asner. The two had planned a remake of The Odd Couple, but Asner’s passing in 2021 ended the dream. “That would’ve been such fun, and we lost it. I’ve lost a lot of friends,” he said. Arlene added, “That’s the curse of living to almost 100.”
Despite the grief, Van Dyke stays optimistic. “Life’s been good to me. I can’t complain,” he shared.
He also fondly recalled filming Mary Poppins with Julie Andrews, calling her “as sweet as she could be.” Though he struggled with singing, Andrews supported him through it.
At 99, Van Dyke continues to inspire with humor, heart, and resilience.
