A nine-year-old girl tragically died just hours after a dental procedure in Vista, California. The child had been given anesthesia at Dreamtime Dentistry on March 18 for treatment related to dental anxiety. After the procedure, she appeared stable and was released into her mother’s care.
On the way home, the girl fell asleep in the car. When the family later tried to wake her, she was unresponsive. Emergency services were called, but she was pronounced dead.
Dreamtime Dentistry issued a statement expressing deep sorrow, saying the child was “continuously monitored” during the procedure and discharged in stable condition. The clinic emphasized it followed all standard post-anesthesia protocols.
The cause of death remains unknown as the medical examiner continues the investigation. Dr. Ryan Watkins, the dentist listed as performing sedation, is cooperating fully.
The dental practice has since closed. “Our hearts break for the family,” the clinic said, adding that patient safety has always been a top priority.
This devastating loss has left a community in mourning and a family searching for answers.
