Emma Watson has revealed that her long-awaited kiss with Harry Potter co-star Rupert Grint was far from magical. Though fans waited years for Hermione and Ron’s big moment in The Deathly Hallows: Part 2, both actors found it deeply uncomfortable.
Watson, who has known Grint since childhood, called the scene “the most horrible thing I’ve ever had to do.” She explained, “It just felt like incest… I couldn’t think about the fact it was him.” Their friendship, she said, made it incredibly awkward, especially when they had to repeat the scene multiple times under drenched conditions.
Grint agreed, saying the kiss felt “unnatural” and “weird,” adding, “It took a while to put our friendship aside.” He confessed during HBO’s Return to Hogwarts that he was so nervous he “blacked out” during filming.
Even Daniel Radcliffe joked about making it worse by showing up to watch, later apologizing for being a “d**k” about it.
Despite the on-screen chemistry, the real magic for this trio was their lifelong friendship—not the kiss.
