On May 27, the bodies of Pandora Kjolsrud, 18, and Evan Clark, 17, were found in Arizona’s Tonto National Forest near Mount Ord. The teens had gone camping for Memorial Day weekend and were later discovered with fatal gunshot wounds. The Maricopa County Medical Examiner confirmed both deaths as homicides.
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office called the deaths “suspicious” and launched a full investigation. Officials stated, “Our focus is on conducting a comprehensive and meticulous investigation to ensure justice for the victims and their loved ones.”
Evan’s mother, Sandra Malibu Sweeney, shared her heartbreak on GoFundMe. “He was my only child… funny, bright, kind, and an old soul,” she wrote. She recalled his touching Mother’s Day letter and described the pain of imagining life without him.
Pandora’s family described her as joyful and deeply compassionate. She loved animals, music, and nature, playing violin and guitar, and enjoying hikes and horseback rides. “She had an infectious smile and made everyone feel special,” the tribute read.
