Study Shows Donald Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ Could Cause over 51,000 Additional Deaths in the US Each Year

A joint study from Yale and the University of Pennsylvania warns that Donald Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill” could lead to over 51,000 additional deaths in the U.S. each year. The proposed legislation includes major cuts to Medicaid, ACA subsidies, and nursing home protections—putting millions at risk.

The study outlines four deadly consequences:
– 11,300 deaths from people losing Medicaid or ACA coverage
– 18,200 deaths from seniors losing drug cost subsidies
– 13,000 deaths from cutting nursing home staffing requirements
– 8,800 deaths from ending ACA tax credits

Senator Bernie Sanders called the bill “immoral” and “a death sentence.” Yale researcher Dr. Alison Galvani added, “Every data point represents a human life,” emphasizing the toll on vulnerable groups like low-income families and older adults.

Beyond health concerns, the Congressional Budget Office warns the bill could increase the national debt by up to $5 trillion by 2034—while 13.7 million could lose health coverage.

Despite backlash, the bill is moving forward. Supporters highlight tax and policy reforms, but critics say it sacrifices lives for political gain.
