Minnesota is on high alert after a deadly shooting spree killed State Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband and left State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife wounded. The suspect, 57-year-old Vance Boelter, is accused of targeting the lawmakers in politically driven attacks early Saturday morning.
Governor Tim Walz called the killings a “politically motivated assassination.” The FBI has offered a $50,000 reward for Boelter’s capture. He was last seen wearing a cowboy hat and posing as a police officer with a car equipped with fake lights and sirens.
Inside Boelter’s vehicle, investigators found a manifesto naming other Minnesota leaders, including Gov. Walz and Rep. Ilhan Omar. His disguise included a realistic mask, raising fears of more planned attacks. SWAT teams searched his Green Isle home but found him gone.
Boelter, a self-proclaimed security expert with global experience, left a goodbye text for roommates, admitting, “I may be dead shortly.” As police continue their manhunt, officials urge the public to stay vigilant and report any sightings immediately.
