During the chaos, Yvette made a split-second decision that may have saved their daughter’s life. According to a family member, she threw herself over Hope, their daughter in her mid-20s, shielding her from the bullets. Hope escaped unharmed.

Senator Hoffman’s injuries were severe, with one bullet narrowly missing his heart. Yvette’s wounds, while serious, did not damage internal organs. Governor Tim Walz confirmed the couple is recovering and called the shootings an “assassination attempt.”

The same morning, State Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband were fatally shot. Authorities believe both attacks were politically driven and connected.
