Veteran pilot who flew for 40 years says Air India crash was inevitable and explains what he thinks went wrong

A retired pilot with 40 years of experience claims the recent Air India crash was “inevitable.” On June 12, Flight AI171 crashed into a residential area minutes after takeoff from Ahmedabad, killing 241 people and injuring many on the ground. One passenger, 40-year-old Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, miraculously survived.

Ross Aimer, a former United Airlines captain, told The Express that he wasn’t surprised, citing past issues with the Boeing 787. “I’m shocked, but it was bound to happen,” he said. While the plane’s black box has been recovered, the cause is still unknown.

Aimer suspects a possible engine failure or technical fault. He explained the plane was fully fueled for London, and clear skies ruled out bad weather. He also noted previous concerns with Rolls-Royce Trent engines used in some 787s.

Air India’s CEO confirmed families will receive financial aid. As investigations continue, Aimer stressed it’s too early to blame the jet but warned authorities might ground the model if flaws are found. He added, “We know this aircraft has had problems.”
