In the 1980s, karate teacher Jeffrey Doucet kidnapped and abused his student, Jody Plauché. Doucet took Jody to a California motel, where he was held for two weeks before police rescued him. Doucet was arrested and flown back to Louisiana to face trial — but he never made it to court.
At Baton Rouge airport, Jody’s father, Gary Plauché, waited disguised in a cap, pretending to use a phone. When local TV cameras turned on, Gary shot Doucet in the head on live TV. Doucet died the next day.

Gary’s other son, Mikey, recently revealed on Twitter that his father used to work for the same TV station and knew exactly when to act by following the camera light.
Gary avoided jail by pleading no contest to manslaughter. He received a suspended sentence, probation, and community service. Years later, Gary said he had no regrets about killing his son’s abuser. Jody, now grown, has shared, “I wouldn’t trade my life… knowing how it turned out.”
