What should’ve been a simple ride home turned fatal for 22-year-old Isabel Ashanti Gómez. After a local party in Michoacán, Mexico, Isabel’s father picked her and a friend up. On their way back, they encountered an alleged cartel checkpoint. Fearing for their safety, her father didn’t stop—leading gunmen to open fire. Isabel died at the scene; her father and friend were critically wounded.
Authorities suspect the Jalisco New Generation Cartel was behind the attack but have made no arrests. “I will always carry you in my heart, my beautiful girl,” wrote Isabel’s partner, May Mendoza, in a touching tribute.
In a separate tragedy, 25-year-old Kianna Jackson was shot and killed in a McDonald’s drive-thru in Pearl, Mississippi. The alleged gunman, Jhonterryes Dampier, was found with a self-inflicted wound and later died. Authorities believe it was a domestic incident.
Both deaths have rocked their communities. Kianna’s GoFundMe has raised over $17,000 for her funeral and children. As investigations continue, the families seek answers—and justice.
