The FDA has announced a Class I recall—its most serious warning—for organic blueberries possibly contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The affected shipment includes 400 boxes (30 pounds each) from Alma Pak International LLC, sent to one customer in North Carolina. The product’s lot numbers are 13325 G1060 and 13325 G1096.

Listeria can cause serious infections, especially in pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. According to the CDC, it’s the third-leading cause of foodborne death in the U.S., with around 260 fatalities each year.

Most healthy people experience mild symptoms—fever, nausea, chills, or diarrhea—but vulnerable individuals may face severe illness or even death. The NHS warns listeriosis can cause long-term complications and is particularly dangerous during pregnancy.

If you’ve purchased blueberries recently, check the lot numbers immediately. Consumers are urged to discard contaminated products. When it comes to listeria, the FDA advises: “Don’t risk it—throw it out.”
