A chilling timelapse video has revealed how fast floodwaters swept through Kerr County, Texas, turning a dry road into a raging river in just seven minutes. As the Guadalupe River rose rapidly on July 4, the deadly flash flood claimed at least 51 lives, including 15 children.
Rescue teams continue to search for more than 20 girls from Camp Mystic, where 750 children were attending. One mother confirmed her 9-year-old daughter, Janie Hunt, died in the flood. The camp was left without power, water, or communication.
Hundreds of first responders are working nonstop. “Our thoughts remain with those unaccounted for,” Kerrville police stated. Governor Greg Abbott has extended the emergency declaration and requested federal aid.
Experts say the storm dumped far more rain than forecasted. Kerrville’s city manager explained water levels jumped from 7 to 29 feet in minutes, merging both forks of the Guadalupe River. The footage shocked viewers: “No wonder people couldn’t evacuate in time.”
