Texas Summer Camp Owner’s Heartbreaking Final Act During Devastating Flood Revealed – Details

Flash floods hit Central and West Texas on July 4, killing at least 82 people, including 28 children. In Kerr County, floodwaters surged through Camp Mystic, where over 700 girls were attending. Longtime camp leader Richard “Dick” Eastland, 74, died trying to save young campers from the rising waters.

Eastland was found in a submerged SUV with three girls he tried to rescue. “His final act reflected the dedication and compassion he showed throughout his life,” said journalist Kaitlyn Ross. His wife, Tweety, who co-managed the camp, was later found safe.

Officials reported 27 girls still missing the next day. “We had a lot of campers, and we do not know that number at this time,” said Sheriff Larry Leitha. Most children had reached higher ground and waited for help without power.

Governor Greg Abbott declared a state of disaster in 15 counties. “This is a time when we, as a state, need God more than ever,” he said, promising “limitless” support and deploying over 1,000 responders.
