Kristoffer Koch, a 25-year-old student from Norway, made a small $27 Bitcoin purchase in 2009 for a school project — then forgot about it. Years later, that tiny investment turned into a staggering fortune worth more than $500 million.
Koch was intrigued by Bitcoin after reading Satoshi Nakamoto’s whitepaper but never imagined its future value. “The sole purchasable items in those days were alpaca socks, thus I proceeded with my life,” he said. It wasn’t until 2013 that he checked his account and discovered it had grown to $850,000.

After cashing out a portion, he bought a luxury apartment in Oslo. If he left the remaining coins untouched, they would now be worth nearly $475 million. “Not in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that they would have soared like this,” Koch admitted.
His story is a striking reminder of how early Bitcoin adopters turned small bets into life-changing wealth.
