New Information Emerges About Suspect in Fatal NYC Mass Shooting, Shane Tamura

Police have revealed new information about Shane Tamura, the suspect in Monday’s deadly mass shooting in Midtown Manhattan that left four people dead, including an NYPD officer. Tamura, 27, from Las Vegas, was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted injury after the attack. Authorities confirmed he acted alone.

A handwritten suicide note found on Tamura linked his actions to chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a brain condition caused by repeated head injuries. He wrote, “Football gave me CTE,” blaming the sport for his declining mental health. The note also requested that his brain be studied.

Tamura, once a promising high school football player, was remembered by former teammate Caleb Clarke as “the biggest goofball in the world, full of energy.” However, his life took a troubled turn after high school. Police tracked his BMW across several states before the shooting, recovering firearms and ammunition from the vehicle.

The victims include Officer Didarul Islam, a 47th Precinct officer, and three civilians. Mayor Eric Adams said, “He loved this city and believed in living a life of faith and service.”

Authorities continue investigating Tamura’s motives and connections to the building where the shooting occurred.
