Eugene Strickland is suing Walt Disney World, claiming he suffered severe injuries on a Blizzard Beach water slide in 2021. The lawsuit, filed May 29, seeks over $50,000 in damages for what he describes as “permanent catastrophic injuries.”
Strickland says he went airborne while riding the Downhill Double Dipper, slamming onto the hard plastic surface after his inner tube slipped out. At the time, he weighed about 334 lbs — 34 lbs over the ride’s 300 lb weight limit. It’s unclear whether he was aware of this restriction.
The slide, marketed as a high-speed, side-by-side thrill ride, allegedly caused injuries including disability, scarring, mental anguish, and a reduced quality of life. Strickland’s attorneys argue Disney was negligent and failed to properly warn guests of the risks.

“We are pursuing justice… and working to hold Disney accountable,” said his legal team in a statement.
The case is set for jury trial in May 2027. Disney has not yet commented on the lawsuit.
