Actor Neal McDonough Refuses To Kiss Co-Stars Even If It Means Losing Jobs

Neal McDonough, recognized for his role in “Desperate Housewives,” stands out in Hollywood for an unconventional reason. He refuses on-screen kisses and intimate scenes with co-stars, following a personal rule that prioritizes his marriage. McDonough, sharing his commitment, stated, “I won’t kiss any other woman because these lips are meant for one woman” — his wife, Ruvé McDonough, whom he married in 2003.

While this commitment has posed challenges in his career, McDonough’s unique stance secured him a role in “Desperate Housewives” before creator Marc Cherry fully grasped its implications. However, McDonough faced difficulties securing jobs afterward, with Hollywood perceiving him as a religious zealot. Eventually, Graham Yost offered him a role in “Justified,” marking a turning point in his career.

Despite facing initial hardships, McDonough’s career rebounded with roles in “Justified,” “American Horror Story: Double Feature,” and “Yellowstone.” Reflecting on the struggle, he emphasized the importance of appreciating opportunities and showcased a renewed dedication to his craft.

McDonough’s steadfastness in both his career and personal life reflects his commitment to family values. Married for nearly 20 years with five children, McDonough sees his role as a provider, drawing inspiration from his father’s example. Despite challenges, his enduring love story with Ruvé remains a testament to his unwavering dedication.
