Air India’s CEO, Campbell Wilson, announced payments for families of the victims of the devastating June 12 crash that killed 241 people. Each family will get an interim payment of ₹25 lakh (about $28,000), plus ₹1 crore (around $116,000) already pledged by Tata Sons.
The London-bound flight crashed just seconds after takeoff from Ahmedabad, slamming into homes and a hostel. Only one British passenger survived. Wilson said, “Our teams are working closely with families and authorities to reunite them with loved ones and belongings.”

The airline is now running urgent safety checks on all Boeing 787 planes as ordered by India’s aviation regulator. Wilson promised these checks will finish within the required timeline to reassure passengers.
Officials have recovered the black box, which could reveal what caused Captain Sumeet Sabharwal’s last mayday call: “No thrust, losing power, unable to lift.” Wilson thanked rescue teams and crew for their bravery and pledged Air India’s full cooperation as investigations continue into the tragic crash.
