Amy Schumer still laughs about Trainwreck. But she also cringes a little.
Back in 2015, she played Amy, a hard-partying commitment skeptic who keeps romance at arm’s length. Then John Cena walked in as Steven, a muscle-bound, earnest boyfriend type. Their brief fling led to the movie’s most talked-about bedroom moment. The scene leaned into big, awkward comedy. And it worked.

Years later, both stars pulled back the curtain. Cena described the set as anything but intimate. Crew members, equipment, and even catering sat just feet away. As a result, he felt exposed. He also had to act out physical “stunt” beats instead of delivering many of his lines. He aimed for maximum discomfort because the joke demanded it.
Meanwhile, Schumer turned the aftermath into her own kind of punchline. She marveled at Cena’s size. Then she joked about how little effort she needed to sell the moment. After a recent round of interviews, she even teased him online with a playful “how dare you.”

Still, she admitted one “major regret,” again in jest. She said she missed a chance to fully commit to the gag and explore every ridiculous detail.
In the end, the scene didn’t shock because it felt sexy. It landed because it felt human. Loud. Unromantic. And painfully funny.
