Anthony Joshua’s family has shared a heartbreaking update after a deadly car crash in Nigeria. The boxer survived the crash, but two close team members lost their lives.
Fatal Crash in Lagos
First, the crash happened on December 29 in north-east Lagos. Joshua was a passenger in a black Lexus SUV heading to his family home. The vehicle hit a stationary commercial truck. His personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and coach, Sina Ghami, both died at the scene.

Loss of Trusted Team Members
Next, tributes poured in for the two men. Ghami co-founded Evolve Gym and worked with elite athletes in the US. Ayodele served as Joshua’s personal trainer and often spoke about his faith. Joshua’s promoter described them as great men and close friends.

Joshua’s Condition and Investigation
Also, Joshua was taken to hospital for checks and treatment. Officials said he is stable, but some close to him fear rib and knee injuries. Nigerian authorities blamed excessive speed and wrongful overtaking, unsafe passing of vehicles in traffic. The family said they were shocked, as they expected him for New Year celebrations.
Finally, Joshua’s family asked for prayers for his recovery and for those who died. The tragedy has left his loved ones and boxing community deeply shaken.
