A heartbreaking video has renewed public attention on the 2022 death of 15-year-old Savannah Graziano, who was fatally shot by police as she attempted to escape her armed father during a high-risk chase in California.

A Violent Chain of Events

According to investigators, Savannah had been living with her father, Anthony Graziano, in his truck and various hotels for several weeks before the incident. An Amber Alert was issued the day before the chase after her mother was found fatally shot, with Anthony named as the primary suspect.

Authorities have since questioned whether Savannah willingly went with her father or was taken against her will.

The High-Speed Pursuit

Newly released helicopter and dash-camera footage shows the father’s truck racing down a Southern California freeway with gunfire coming from inside the vehicle. Deputies did not wear body cameras at the time, leaving aerial and witness recordings as the only visual evidence.

The chase ended near Hesperia, where officers surrounded the truck. A narrator in the police-released video describes an “extensive exchange of gunfire” as the standoff unfolded.

A Deadly Misunderstanding

The footage shows Savannah crouched near the vehicle before slowly walking toward a deputy who was calling her to safety. As she moved toward him, several other deputies opened fire.

The deputy closest to her shouted, “Stop shooting her! He’s in the car!” His warnings were captured on his belt recorder but not broadcast over radio channels.

Savannah, who was unarmed, was rushed to the hospital but died from her injuries. Her father was also killed at the scene. Multiple weapons and body armor were later found in his vehicle.

Ongoing Investigation and Family Outcry

California’s Department of Justice continues to investigate the shooting, and the names of the officers involved remain undisclosed. Savannah’s uncle acknowledged the chaos deputies faced but insists her death was preventable.

“She was a sweet girl,” he said. “She didn’t deserve this.”

A Life With Bears

Timothy Treadwell was an environmentalist and filmmaker known as the Grizzly Man. He loved the grizzly bears of Alaska’s Katmai National Park. Treadwell spent 13 summers camping among the wild animals. He even gave the bears names and considered them his friends.

The Fatal Encounter

In October 2003, Treadwell and his partner Amie Huguenard camped in the Grizzly Maze. This area was dense and wooded. The couple stayed beyond the usual season during a bear feeding period. On October 6, pilot Willy Fulton arrived to pick them up. He found a collapsed tent and a massive bear eating human remains.

Chilling Physical Evidence

Park rangers investigated the abandoned campsite. They found Treadwell’s severed head and his arm with a watch still attached. Investigators also found a camera with a six-minute audio recording. The lens cap was on, but the microphone captured the entire attack. Meanwhile, filmmaker Werner Herzog later listened to the tape for a documentary.

Chilling Final Words

The audio reveals the couple’s desperate fight against the predator. Treadwell can be heard screaming: “Get out here! I’m getting killed out here!” Huguenard hit the bear with a frying pan to save him. Later, her own screams are heard before the recording ends. Herzog warned others to destroy the tape and never listen to it.

Facebook explained: “Sometimes a message is just spontaneous – something you want to say in the moment without worrying about it sticking around. That’s why we’re excited to introduce Vanish Mode on Messenger, which lets you send messages that disappear automatically.”

Facebook’s Help Center now says Vanish Mode is “no longer supported,” but disappearing messages still exist. The Help Center notes: “Disappearing messages are gradually being introduced and may not be available to you yet,” and the setting can be found in Messenger under Privacy and Support.

The key update is the screenshot warning. Messenger states: “If someone takes a screenshot or screen recording, a notification will appear in the chat.” Zuckerberg announced: “New update for end-to-end encrypted Messenger chats so you get a notification if someone screenshots a disappearing message.”

Zuckerberg demonstrated the feature by sharing a chat with his wife, Priscilla Chan, where a screenshot triggered the alert.
