Many welcomed his win as a break from Democratic Party status quo.

After interviewing Trump voters on the streets, Mamdani ran on affordability.
His policies focused on rising rents and the cost of groceries.

Meanwhile, Rapaport opened his I Am Rapaport podcast on Monday with this:
“Welcome to the ziggy zone of disruption. My name is Michael Rapaport, a.k.a. Mayor Rapaport. Mr. Mayor Rapaport, a.k.a. The Gringo Mandingo, a.k.a. The Enflamed Ashkenazi, a.k.a. The Sultan of Sniff.”

Later, he revealed his plan at the end of the episode.
“Let me tell you something, guys, girls, women, children of all ages,” he began.

“2025 was crazy, and I don’t see it getting any f*cking calmer or cooler in 2026, the way things started. That’s why I’m running for mayor.”

Also, Debra Messing criticized Mamdani, calling him “an actual communist jihadist.”
She also called him “a literal Karl Marx-quoting, America-hating jihadist.”

Finally, Mamdani has called himself a “democratic socialist” and spoke about faith.
“Regardless of whether we agree, I will protect you, celebrate with you, mourn alongside you, and never, not for a second, hide from you.”

Donald Trump has finally revealed the timing for his promised payment.

Americans have waited since November for $2,000 checks for almost everyone.

Trump’s November post

Now, Trump points back to a November 9 Truth Social post.

“People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS!
“We are taking in trillions of dollars and will soon begin paying down our ENORMOUS DEBT, $37 Trillion.
“Record investment in the USA, plants and factories going up all over the place.
“A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone.”

However, the administration earlier said tariff revenue had other uses.

It would fund existing tax cuts or reduce federal debt.

Who may qualify

Still, eligibility remains unclear beyond excluding ‘high income’ people.

Trump later said ‘moderate income’ people will receive it, without figures.

Also, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the ‘payment’ may vary.

“It could come in lots of forms, in lots of ways.
“You know, it could be just the tax decreases that we are seeing on the president’s agenda.
“You know, no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no tax on Social Security, deductibility of auto loans. So, you know, those are substantial deductions.”

“The full benefit of the tariffs has not yet been calculated in that many of the buyers of goods and products, in order to avoid paying the tariffs in the short term, ‘STOCK UP’ by purchasing far more inventory than they can use.
“We are already the ‘hottest’ country anywhere in the world, but this tariff POWER will bring America national security and wealth the likes of which has never been seen before.”

Finally, Trump addressed timing on Air Force One last year.

“It will be next year.
“The tariffs allow us to give a dividend. We’re going to do a dividend and we’re also going to be reducing debt.”

Why fears are rising

Concern is growing in Greenland after Donald Trump’s US operation in Venezuela.
People are asking what could happen if he tried to take Greenland.

What happened in Venezuela

Trump said that in the early hours of Saturday morning, January 3, US forces captured President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores.
He said they were taken aboard the USS Iwo Jima helicopter.

US Attorney General Pam Bondi said both were indicted in the Southern District of New York.
She wrote on X: “They will soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts.”

Trump also said the US will “run” Venezuela until a “safe, proper and judicious transition.”
He added: “We’re going to be running it with a group, and we’re going to make sure it’s run properly.”

Why Trump wants Greenland

Trump, 79, first showed interest in March 2025 after sending Vice President JD Vance to inspect a naval base there.
He has repeated his “need” for Greenland, including after the Venezuela raid.

On Air Force One, he said: “We need Greenland for a national security situation.”
He added: “It’s so strategic. Right now, Greenland is covered with Russian and Chinese ships all over the place.”

A day earlier, he said: “We do need Greenland, absolutely. We need it for defence.”

What Denmark and allies said

Greenland belongs to Denmark, a NATO and European Union member.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said: “It makes absolutely no sense to talk about the US needing to take over Greenland.”

She added: “The US has no right to annex any of the three countries in the Danish Kingdom.”
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said: “Only Denmark and Greenland have the right to decide about their territories.”

What a takeover could trigger

A US military move would mean attacking a NATO ally, Frederiksen said.
She said NATO treats an attack on one member as an attack on all.

NATO decisions need all members to agree, and the US is a member.
Trump can send troops first, without Congress, but must notify Congress within 48 hours.

If Congress does not approve, the operation ends after about 90 days.
Denmark could turn to the United Nations, arguing the US broke international law.
