Charles Bronson, one of Britain’s most notorious prisoners, could learn today whether he will be released after more than 50 years in jail.

Now 73, Bronson — born Michael Gordon Peterson and also known as Charles Salvador — was first imprisoned for armed robbery. Over the years, he committed further violent offences inside prison, including attacks on guards and hostage-taking. He has spent much of his sentence in solitary confinement.

The Parole Board is reviewing his case. There will be no formal hearing. Instead, the decision will be based on written reports from his lawyers, prison staff, probation officers and psychiatrists. The key question is simple: does he still pose a risk to the public? If the risk can be managed under strict conditions, he could be released.

Bronson recently dismissed his legal team after his request for a public hearing was refused. A new solicitor has since taken over, allowing the review to go ahead.

At his last parole hearing in 2023, the board said his behaviour had improved. However, he was not moved to a lower-security prison. He remains in a high-security unit, largely alone in his cell for most of the day.

Supporters argue he has changed and deserves a chance. Critics say his violent history cannot be ignored. The Parole Board must now decide his future.

A death row inmate’s final hours ended in shocking pain after a tragic last meal mistake. Wesley Ira Purkey, 68, was executed in 2020 but endured what experts call “excruciating suffering.”

Purkey had been sentenced to death for the horrific 1998 kidnapping and murder of 16-year-old Jennifer Long. He also confessed to killing 80-year-old Mary Bales with a hammer. Both crimes left families devastated, with Jennifer’s father saying: “He took my daughter’s last breath. There is no closure.”

Medical reports show Purkey’s lethal injection caused fluid to rush into his lungs, creating the feeling of drowning. “Most prisoners will experience sensations of suffocation from pentobarbital,” explained Dr. Gail Van Norman. His autopsy confirmed severe pulmonary damage during the procedure.

In his final words, Purkey expressed deep remorse, saying he was “truly sorry” for the suffering he caused. Strangely, his last meal request for pecan pie was never fulfilled—he asked to eat it “later,” not realizing there would be no later.

Mark Zuckerberg is warning Facebook Messenger users not to screenshot private chats. Messenger now shows a notification when someone captures a disappearing message in certain conversations.

Facebook introduced “Vanish Mode” in 2020 for Facebook and Instagram. It made messages disappear after the recipient viewed them and left the chat. Facebook explained: “Sometimes a message is just spontaneous – something you want to say in the moment without worrying about it sticking around. That’s why we’re excited to introduce Vanish Mode on Messenger, which lets you send messages that disappear automatically.”

Facebook’s Help Center now says Vanish Mode is “no longer supported,” but disappearing messages still exist. The Help Center notes: “Disappearing messages are gradually being introduced and may not be available to you yet,” and the setting can be found in Messenger under Privacy and Support.

The key update is the screenshot warning. Messenger states: “If someone takes a screenshot or screen recording, a notification will appear in the chat.” Zuckerberg announced: “New update for end-to-end encrypted Messenger chats so you get a notification if someone screenshots a disappearing message.”

Zuckerberg demonstrated the feature by sharing a chat with his wife, Priscilla Chan, where a screenshot triggered the alert.
