Body language expert breaks down French president Macron’s response moments after wife ‘slapped’ him

A viral moment between French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte has sparked global buzz after she appeared to push his face while exiting their plane in Vietnam on May 25.

As the couple arrived in Hanoi, cameras captured Brigitte planting both hands on Macron’s face in what looked like a “slap” or shove. Macron appeared startled, and Brigitte later refused his arm, adding to the tension. A lip reader claimed she told him, “Stay away, you loser,” while brushing him off with a firm “Non.”

President Macron has since downplayed the incident, saying they were “just joking.” An Elysée official described it as light “horsing around,” accusing critics of overreacting.

However, body language expert Judi James disagreed, calling their post-incident behavior “overkill.” The pair, later seen smiling and arm-in-arm, looked more like a “bride and groom” trying too hard to project unity.

While Macron insists it was harmless, experts say the interaction may hint at deeper strain. Whether playful or pointed, the world is watching closely—especially with more diplomatic events ahead.
