Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino is defending the agents involved in the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti. Despite public outcry, Bovino stated that the agents did a “good job.” He even suggested that the officers themselves were the victims of the high-pressure situation.
The death of the 37-year-old nurse was caught on camera. The video shows Pretti trying to help a woman who had been pushed into the snow. Moments later, agents pepper-sprayed and tackled him. While Pretti may have legally owned a gun, reports indicate he was already disarmed before he was killed.

During a recent interview, Bovino dismissed the video evidence. He called it “freeze-frame adjudication,” arguing that short clips cannot tell the whole story. He insists that only a full investigation will prove whether Pretti was still a threat when the shots were fired.
The administration has also commented on the event. While leaders say they dislike any loss of life, they highlighted that Pretti allegedly brought a loaded weapon to the protest. They suggest his presence with a firearm made a dangerous situation much worse.

Critics are frustrated by these statements. They argue that officials are defending the agents’ actions before the facts are fully settled. As the investigation moves forward, the case continues to fuel a heated national debate over police tactics and public safety.
