Canada rocked by the deadliest school shooting in 40 years as a ‘woman in a dress’ opens fire

Canada is mourning after a deadly school shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. Nine people were killed and at least 25 others were injured. It is the deadliest school shooting in the country in 40 years.

The attack took place at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School and at a nearby home. Police found several victims inside the school. A suspect, described earlier in a public alert as a woman wearing a dress, was also found dead at the scene from what authorities believe was a self-inflicted injury. Two additional victims were discovered at a nearby residence believed to be connected to the incident.

Tumbler Ridge is a small community of about 2,400 people. The local secondary school has around 175 students. During the shooting, students reportedly barricaded classroom doors to protect themselves.

Police say they believe they know the identity of the attacker but have not released further details. The motive remains unclear, and investigators say it may take time to understand what led to the tragedy.

Canadian leaders expressed deep sorrow and offered condolences to the families affected. Schools in the area were closed following the incident as the community begins to grieve and recover.
