Simone Ledward Boseman, widow of Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, is urging young adults to take colon cancer seriously. Chadwick passed away in 2020 at age 43 after a private, four-year battle with the disease. “We who have this knowledge have an obligation to inform our fellow man,” Simone shared.
Speaking at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Simone warned that colon cancer cases in people under 50 are projected to rise by 140% by 2030. It’s now the leading cause of cancer deaths in U.S. men under 50 and the second for women. Alarming cases have even been found in people as young as 21.

“Most young people vastly underestimate their risk,” Simone said. Caught early, colon cancer is treatable—yet awareness remains dangerously low. Dr. Kimmie Ng echoed this, calling for more research and better screening practices.
Simone’s advocacy is a powerful tribute to Chadwick, who continued filming major roles while undergoing treatment. His strength lives on through her mission to save lives through awareness.
