He spent his life creating joy through food. But one April morning, his light went out too soon.

Joey Fecci, a gifted chef from Somers, New York, passed away at just 26 while running a marathon in Nashville. The talented young chef had trained at the Culinary Institute of America and worked in world-class kitchens, including Per Se in New York City and the award-winning Yolan in Nashville. His creativity and kindness touched everyone he met — colleagues, friends, and family alike.

“It is with unbearable grief that we share that our beloved Joey has transitioned to the other side,” his family wrote. “He was a bright light of inspiration and positivity to everyone blessed to know him.” His longtime girlfriend, Olivia Mueller, shared her heartbreak online: “I will never fill this void in my soul. You were my protector, my home, my everything.”

Joey’s love for food began early — at three years old, he stood on a chair flipping pancakes beside his mom. That passion carried him from small kitchens to fine-dining acclaim, where he inspired countless young cooks with his warmth and drive.

Now, his family is keeping that spirit alive through the Chef Joey Fecci Culinary Scholarship, helping others chase the dream he lived so fully. Because even though his hands have gone still, the hearts he touched will never stop cooking with love.
