Actress Christina Applegate, 53, was recently hospitalized in Los Angeles with a painful kidney infection. She shared her experience from her hospital bed on her podcast MeSsy, which she co-hosts with Jamie-Lynn Sigler.
“I’m in so much pain,” Applegate said. The infection started in her right kidney and spread to the left. After days of severe stomach pain and a difficult flight home from Europe, she checked herself into the hospital, demanding full tests. A scan later revealed the serious infection, which began as a urinary tract infection.

Doctors treated her with IV antibiotics, and she was released after a week. Still recovering, Applegate added, “It’s a work in progress.”
She is also battling multiple sclerosis (MS), which she was diagnosed with in 2021. “I live in constant pain,” she told Good Morning America. Despite the challenges, she continues to speak openly about her health.
“I lay in bed screaming,” she shared in an earlier podcast episode, describing her struggle with MS symptoms.
