City Gripped By Fear Of Serial Killer After 38 Bodies Found In Lake

A teenage boy’s body was found in Lady Bird Lake, Austin, after falling in during a family paddleboarding trip. He’s the 38th person—and 30th male—found in the lake since 2022, deepening fears of a possible serial killer.

Locals have dubbed the suspected killer the “Rainey Street Ripper.” Though police claim only one case is confirmed as homicide, at least six deaths remain unexplained. Most victims were men between ages 39 and 49.

Authorities insist there’s no evidence linking the deaths. Causes listed include drowning, overdose, and natural events. In the latest case, police said, “There were no trauma wounds,” dismissing suggestions of foul play.

Despite $800,000 in safety upgrades, residents are unconvinced. Over 5,200 signed a petition demanding deeper investigation. One cited case is Christian Pugh, found badly beaten in 2019—police still called it an accident. Tensions remain high as bodies keep appearing.
