Colin Farrell Is the Father of Two Sons, One of Whom Has ‘Special Needs’ — A Look at Him as a Dad

Colin Farrell, the award-winning actor, is not just a Hollywood star but also a dedicated father to two sons. His first son, James, was born in 2003 with ex-partner Kim Bordenave. At age four, James was diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome, a rare neuro-genetic disorder. Farrell, however, has always seen his son for who he is, saying, “The only time I’m reminded that there is something different about him… is when I see him with other 4-year-olds.”

Despite the challenges, Farrell is deeply inspired by James and often shares how he defies the odds. Speaking at a summit for Angelman Syndrome, he advised parents to “find a community” for support, acknowledging the struggles but also the love and strength children with special needs bring.

In 2009, Farrell welcomed his second son, Henry, with girlfriend Alicja Bachleda. He fondly recalls the boys’ bonding moments, like watching Disney movies together. Farrell has emphasized how fatherhood has widened his life, making him both stronger and more vulnerable. He proudly declares, “Fatherhood for me is the ultimate success.”
