For decades, George Schappell carried a secret — one even his conjoined twin sister, Lori, didn’t know.
Born joined at the head, sharing part of their brain and blood vessels, the twins from Pennsylvania defied all odds to live full, independent lives. They were inseparable — literally and emotionally — until their peaceful passing this year at age 62, the world’s oldest living conjoined twins.

But behind the shared smiles and inspiring strength, George was hiding a truth too heavy to carry. “I always knew I should have been a boy,” he once revealed. “I kept it hidden — even from Lori — for many years.”
When he came out as transgender in 2007, Lori’s response melted hearts everywhere: “It was a shock, yes, but I’m so proud of him. We’ve overcome so much together — nothing can break that.”
Together, they lived, loved, and stood firm against the world’s curiosity. “Why fix what isn’t broken?” George once said when asked about separation.

💫 Their story is a powerful reminder — love doesn’t always need understanding. Sometimes, it just needs acceptance.
