A Texas couple says a simple getaway turned into a lasting nightmare. Now, they are seeking accountability through the courts.
Kayelee Gates and her fiancé, Christian Capraro, have filed a $75,000 lawsuit after discovering what they allege were hidden cameras inside a Maryland Airbnb they rented in 2022. According to their claim, the devices recorded them during private moments, including while they were intimate in the bathroom.

The discovery came suddenly. As they settled in to relax, something felt off. They noticed smoke detectors positioned oddly above the bed and in the corner of the room. When they looked closer, their concern grew. They believe the devices were not detectors at all, but concealed cameras. A similar device appeared in the bathroom.
Shock set in. Gates later described panic, fear, and deep embarrassment. She left the property immediately and contacted police. Investigators later reported finding another recording device in the home, raising further alarm.

The couple says the emotional toll did not end that day. They now live with lingering anxiety and worry about where the footage may have gone or who may have seen it.
The property owner has denied wrongdoing. He has not yet responded formally to the lawsuit.

For Gates and Capraro, the issue goes beyond money. They want privacy respected and boundaries enforced. Their case highlights a growing concern among travelers. Trust matters. And when it breaks, the impact can last far longer than a weekend stay.
